Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free in DFW

Cutting gluten is already a whole thing. Cutting dairy on top of it? Y'all, the menu options start to feel very small very fast… and the last thing any of us wants when we're finally out with friends is to spend the whole meal interrogating our server and hoping for the best.

These are the spots around DFW that actually get it. A few are fully dedicated, which means you can walk in and order anything without doing mental math in your head. Others are regular restaurants that just take it seriously, they label their menus, they keep a dedicated fryer, and their staff actually knows what gluten-free & dairy-free means without you having to explain it.

Here are twelve of my go-to spots, let's eat!

Sweet Gilly's is the rare bakeshop where the whole case is fair game. Every single thing is made gluten-free, dairy-free, and egg-free, so there is no scanning labels or asking which two of the three you can have. Grab a pillowy cinnamon roll, a cookie cake, a few cookies, or whatever savory quiche is out that day, all made by hand in small batches. It is the kind of place that makes you forget you ever had to give anything up. Just know it is a small space with limited weekend hours so plan ahead for custom orders.

Ruby Baking Co. holds a title no one else in DFW does: the only top 9 allergen free bakery in the DFW metroplex. That means everything Chelsea and her team make is free of gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame, all out of one fully dedicated kitchen. If you or someone you love is juggling more than one allergy, this is the place where you finally get to just point at the case and say "I'll take two of those please." Go for the loaves of bread, the brownies, the oatmeal cream pies, or a slice of Texas Sheet Cake. Honestly just go and take the whole case home with you.

Unrefined is a dedicated gluten-free and soy free bakery that also runs about 99% dairy-free, with a full vegan line that is both dairy and egg-free. Beyond the cupcakes and cakes they are known for, they do breads, take and bake cinnamon rolls with their unbuttercream, and Unrefined Eats, a frozen ready to heat meal section that is a lifesaver on weeks when cooking is not happening. The vegan cupcakes are a safe bet for dairy-free, and since they are not quite 100% dairy-free across the board, it is worth a quick confirm on anything you are unsure about.

This is the spot I send people to when they want real food, not just a salad with the cheese picked off. Almost the entire menu is built to flex gluten-free and dairy-free, the sauces are made from scratch, and there is a dedicated fryer for the hand cut fries. The Fried Rice with cauliflower rice and tamari is naturally gluten-free and dairy-free, the Yellow Curry comes in a coconut broth, the crispy Brussels sprouts with honey garlic are a must, and the cashew queso is completely dairy-free. Order a grilled salmon bowl and skip the cheese add ons and you have an easy gluten-free and dairy-free meal.

A real gluten-free waffle cone is a small miracle, and Local Creamery makes theirs on a dedicated cone iron. On top of that, they keep a rotating lineup of dairy-free flavors built on a coconut cream base that genuinely tastes like ice cream instead of icy sorbet. The salted caramel and the German chocolate are standouts, and there are always several dairy-free options to choose from, all made with natural dyes and ingredients.

bellagreen is one of those places I always recommend when someone tells me they want somewhere easy and low stress. They label gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian right on the menu so you can actually just sit down and order like a normal person. And it's not just one sad option hiding in the corner, there's a real spread of dishes that hit both. The Golden Glow Roasted Veggie Bowl, the Simple Salmon or Chimichurri Salmon, the Blackened Shrimp Salad, the Oh Kale Yeah salad, and the Paleo Spaghetti Squash Bolognese are all gluten-free and dairy-free. Honestly just open the menu and go wild.

Brya Zan is the fast casual Thai spot from the team behind Malai Kitchen and honestly it has become one of my go-to weeknight answers when I want something fast, easy, and completely safe. You order on a tablet where you select gluten-free right under the allergen tab, and there's a dairy-free tab too. Because so much of the cooking leans on coconut milk instead of cream, dairy-free comes naturally here. The Fresh Summer Rolls with the gluten-free fish sauce swap are a forever order, and the Drunken Noodles come on house made gluten-free rice noodles. I could eat this every single week.

Over 90% of Malai's menu can be made gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan, and the staff is one of the most knowledgeable I've encountered anywhere in Dallas. They default to coconut milk across most dishes which makes dairy-free really easy without even having to ask. Start with the Seared Ahi Tuna Spring Rolls, then go for the Drunken Noodles on the wide rice noodles they make in house, you can actually watch it happen through the kitchen window which I absolutely love. For something sweet, the mango sticky rice is naturally dairy-free and honestly the perfect ending to the meal.

Bavette is my favorite "let's actually get dressed and go somewhere nice" date night spot. A huge chunk of the menu is already gluten-free and easily accommodates dairy-free too. Your lane here is the steaks, the salmon, and those crispy fries, all naturally dairy-free. The BVT steak and fries is my forever order and I will not be taking questions about it.

Two Hands at The Quad is one of those spots that makes you feel good from the second you walk in. It's breezy, it's fresh, and they mark gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan right on the menu which immediately takes the stress out of the whole experience. The food is veggie forward with a really solid lineup of options that work for both. The Acai Bowl, the Brassicas Salad with added salmon, the Vietnamese Mushroom Rice Bowl, the Salmon Quinoa Bowl, and the Chilli Crunch Fries are all marked gluten-free and dairy-free. Quick heads up that the soft scrambled eggs are made with cream and can't be subbed, and any bread on the menu can be swapped for gluten-free!

Walking in feels like a beach day, and the portions are no joke. Coco Shrimp is mostly dairy-free, with just a few sauces to watch, since the cilantro lime, the mochi, and the spicy sauce all contain dairy. On the gluten side, the shrimp options are gluten-free across the board except for the classic Coco Shrimp, the Shrimp Tacos, and the Sweet and Spicy Shrimp. My move is the Lemon Herb Shrimp with a side of grilled pineapple, and I always ask for the poppy seed vinaigrette since the ginger dressing is not gluten-free. They have been expanding, so check which location is closest to you!

Le Beef is Bavette's sister restaurant, and it carries over all the same gluten-free care in a more elevated, prix fixe format. You start with a salad, bread (skip the butter), and Canapés, then move into the main event, all for one set price of just $29.95 which feels like a steal for the quality. The signature Le Beef is a 50 day wet aged prime top blade steak served with fries, and both the steak and the fries are naturally dairy-free. They also have a dairy-free sauce to go with it, so you don’t have to miss out. Just tell them you are gluten-free and they will bring out gluten-free bread and swap it onto the Canapés too!
