Gluten-Free in Dallas for Under $25

The gluten-free tax is so real and honestly so annoying. The $3-5 upcharge for a gluten-free bun, the extra few dollars for a sad cauliflower pizza crust, the little sting every single time you just want to eat out safely without paying a premium for it. It adds up fast and it's frustrating.

But here are seven spots that prove eating gluten-free in Dallas does not have to break the bank. Let's eat!

~$24 for three tacos (I like to mix and match) & Garlicky Pinto Beans
Staff Trained

Resident Taqueria is the one I send everyone to. The tortillas are made to order from corn, so the tacos are naturally gluten-free, and the second you mention it they ask if you are celiac and wipe down the griddle without you having to push. Get three tacos (the carne asada and the braised pork shoulder are unreal) plus the garlicky pinto beans, and you have a full meal for around $24. Just skip the chips, since those come out of a shared fryer.

Brya Zan is the fast-casual Thai spot from the Malai Kitchen team, and it’s no secret it’s one of my favorite spots on this list. You order on a tablet and tap gluten-free under the allergen tab, so it goes straight to the kitchen. The Fresh Summer Rolls (ask for the gluten-free fish sauce swap) and the Drunken Noodles on their house-made gluten-free rice noodles come to about $19 together. Plus, the portions are big enough that you might be carrying some home for tomorrow.

~$17 for Chicken Rice Dumplings and Pickled Smashed Cucumbers
Staff Trained
GF Options Marked

If you thought your dumpling days were behind you, Hello Dumpling is about to make your whole week. This family-run spot makes fresh rice dumplings and both the chicken and vegetarian versions are gluten-free, served with tamari instead of soy sauce. They are careful to never cross the two on a gluten-free order, which I always appreciate. An order of the chicken rice dumplings with the pickled smashed cucumbers runs around $17 and honestly hits every craving.

~$24 for Sticky Chicken & Cucumber Salad
Dedicated Kitchen
Separate Fryer

Chow is the one where you walk up, read the entire menu, and order without asking a single question, because every single thing at this food truck is 100% gluten-free! Posted up full-time at Hilltop Truck Park, they do fried rice bowls, sticky chicken, wings, and loaded fries. The chicken fried rice with a side of cucumber salad is around $24 and is easily two meals.

~$14 for a Sausage, Egg, & Cheese Bagel Sandwich
Staff Trained

Cheap gluten-free breakfast is nearly impossible to find, which is exactly why Abby's feels like such a gift. They make their gluten-free bagels in house, use a separate toaster, and call out your allergen to the whole staff when you order. The gluten-free upcharge is just $1.75, which I genuinely could not believe. A loaded breakfast bagel sandwich runs around $14 and it's big enough that you might be taking half of it home with you.

~$15 for a 8-Piece Gluten-Free Nugget Box
Separate Fryer

Birdcall is your fast-food fix. Their gluten-free nuggets, fries, and tots are all made in a dedicated fryer, so you can finally do the nuggets-and-fries thing without the worry. One important note: the breaded tenders are not gluten-free, so stick with the nuggets. A nugget combo with fries or tots and lands around $15, and do not sleep on the house-made sauces, they are the whole point!!

~$20 for the Classic Loyo Burger & Fries
Separate Fryer
GF Options Marked
Staff Trained

Loyo Burger is the spot for when you just want a really good burger without the stress of wondering if the bun is going to fall apart in your hands before you even take a bite. Their Wagyu beef comes from Local Yocal Farm to Market and the gluten-free buns actually hold together, which any of us who have been doing this for a while knows is genuinely rare. The Classic Loyo Burger on a gluten-free bun with fries from their dedicated fryer comes to around $20 and y’all, it’s a great burger.
